The Gold Libertad is a striking example of Mexican numismatic art, produced by the historic Casa de Moneda de México and backed by the Banco de México. This half-ounce gold piece has evolved in its composition over the decades. Issues struck from 1981 to 1988 were composed of 0.900 fine gold, while those minted from 1991 onward contain 0.999 fine gold. On the obverse, the coin displays the national shield of Mexico in relief, surrounded by the inscription "Estados Unidos Mexicanos". The reverse presents a dramatic scene featuring the Winged Victory statue, set against a backdrop of the two famous Mexican volcanoes, Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl. These design elements combine to celebrate the rich heritage and natural landscape of Mexico.
