The Burnished American Gold Eagle stands out as a distinctive numismatic creation, struck on specially prepared metal blanks that give the coin a unique visual texture and finish. Produced at the West Point Mint in New York, this fifty-dollar denomination contains exactly one ounce of pure gold content. The burnishing process sets these issues apart, offering a different aesthetic experience from standard bullion or proof strikes. On the obverse, the design presents Lady Liberty in stride, holding a lit torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. This powerful image is adapted from the famous early twentieth-century gold double eagle design. The West Point "W" mint mark is visible on this face, designating its origin of manufacture. The reverse, designed by Miley Busiek, depicts a family of eagles. A male eagle is captured in flight, carrying an olive branch as he hovers above a nest containing a female eagle and her young hatchlings. This side also features the traditional national mottos, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST", alongside the weight and face value inscriptions.
