1 oz Proof American Gold Eagle PR-70 PCGS (Random Year)
The Proof American Gold Eagle stands as a premier example of modern United States coinage, showcasing a brilliant mirrorlike finish. Unlike standard circulating coinage, these proof specimens undergo multiple strikes by the United States Mint at West Point, New York. This intensive minting process brings out the finest details of the design, creating a striking contrast against the polished fields. On the obverse, the coin features a classic depiction of Lady Liberty walking forward with a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other, set against a backdrop of radiating sunbeams. This iconic image is adapted from the famous Gold Double Eagle designed in the early twentieth century. Below the date, the West Point mint mark, represented by the letter W, is clearly visible. The reverse of the coin, designed by artist Miley Busiek, presents a family of eagles. A male eagle is captured mid-flight, carrying an olive branch back to a nest where a female eagle shelters her young eaglets. This side also displays the legal tender face value of 50 Dollars and states the gold content of 1 ounce.
