The 2016 Silverbug Island Kraken silver round represents the second chapter in an eight-part series that explores the dangerous perils pirates face while searching for lost treasure. Struck by the North American Mint, this piece represents the fifth time a design was created in collaboration with the online coin community. It features a brilliant uncirculated finish and contains one troy ounce of 0.999 fine silver. The obverse side of the round depicts a dramatic maritime struggle, showing a classic pirate vessel completely ensnared by the massive tentacles of a mythical giant octopus, or Kraken. This side also bears the year of issue, 2016. On the reverse, a pirate ship is shown navigating the waters surrounding an island made entirely of coins. This side features the inscriptions "WELCOME TO SILVERBUG ISLAND" and "1 TROY OZ 0.999 FINE SILVER", confirming the weight and purity of the precious metal.
