In May 1989, a brand-new realm of entertainment opened its gates, and this pure silver round was created as an exclusive memento for the occasion. Struck by the Rarities Mint, this piece was only available at the Walt Disney MGM Studios park, making it a highly specific piece of theme park history. With a limited mintage of just 5,000 pieces, it represents a very brief moment in the timeline of Disney park expansions. The obverse of this one-ounce silver round showcases the beloved characters Mickey and Minnie Mouse. On the reverse, the design commemorates the park's debut with the inscription "Opening May 1989" alongside the "Disney MGM Studios" name. The bottom of the reverse displays the weight and purity, marking its composition of 0.999 fine silver. Because of its age, some of these rounds have developed a delicate lilac-colored toning around the outer edges, adding a unique visual character to each survivor from the park's opening year.
