In the early twentieth century, United States coinage underwent a dramatic artistic transformation. This coin, struck in 0.900 fine gold with a precious metal content of 0.4838 troy ounces, represents a bold departure from traditional American numismatic design. The obverse features a profile of Lady Liberty wearing a Native American war bonnet, a creative choice that caused a sensation when first introduced. Thirteen stars arch over her head, symbolizing the original colonies, while her hair band bears the word LIBERTY. The year of issue is placed at the bottom of the design. On the reverse, a majestic bald eagle stands proudly amidst several inscriptions.
