Between 1907 and 1933, the United States minted a ten dollar gold piece that departed dramatically from traditional coinage designs. This gold coin, struck with a purity of 0.900 gold and containing 0.4838 troy ounces of precious metal, was produced across three different facilities: Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco. Each specimen certified in Mint State 61 (MS-61) preserves the bold, sculptural relief that defines this era of American numismatic art. The front of the coin presents a distinctive portrait of Lady Liberty, who wears an Native American war bonnet. Thirteen stars arch over her head, symbolizing the original colonies, while the word "Liberty" is clearly inscribed across her hair band. The year of issue is positioned directly below the bust. On the reverse, a proud bald eagle stands as the central focus. The bird is encircled by the inscriptions "United States of America", "E Pluribus Unum", and the face value, "Ten Dollars". Unlike most coins with reeded or plain edges, this series features a unique edge decorated with raised stars, making it a tactile and visual masterpiece from every angle.
