Introduced in the early twentieth century, this ten dollar gold piece represents a bold departure from traditional American coinage. The obverse presents an unconventional depiction of Lady Liberty, who wears an Native American war bonnet. Her hair band bears the word LIBERTY, and thirteen stars encircle her portrait to represent the original colonies, with the year of manufacture positioned at the bottom of the design. The reverse of the coin showcases a proud bald eagle standing amidst the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the face value of TEN DOLLARS. Rather than a standard reeded edge, this coin features raised stars along its rim, with the total number of stars corresponding to the states in the Union when the coin was struck. Crafted from 0.900 fine gold, each coin contains 0.4838 troy ounces of precious metal. These pieces were produced between 1907 to 1933 at the Philadelphia, Denver, or San Francisco mints. This particular specimen is preserved in Extra Fine condition, showcasing the intricate details envisioned by its creator, the celebrated sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens.
