(1163-1201 AD) Crusader States Antioch AR Denier Bohemond III XF
During the twelfth century, the Principality of Antioch produced striking silver coinage that reflects the turbulent and fascinating era of the Crusades. This silver denier, minted between 1163 and 1201 AD under the authority of Baldwin III, offers a direct connection to the medieval Levant. It survives in remarkably well-preserved Extra Fine condition, allowing its historic design elements to remain clear and defined. The obverse of the coin features the profile of a Frankish knight facing left, outfitted in a traditional mail coif. This armored portrait captures the military character of the Crusader States. On the reverse, a short Maltese cross serves as the central design, surrounded by Latin legends and a moneyer signature, which helped guarantee the weight and purity of the silver in the medieval marketplace.
