During the late fifteenth century, the Kingdom of Hungary produced small silver denar coins that circulated widely through Central Europe. This particular specimen dates from the era of King Matthias Corvinus, who ruled from 1458 to 1490, with this specific type minted between 1468 and 1490. Surviving in Very Fine condition, the coin offers a remarkably clear look at medieval artistry and political identity. The obverse side of the coin displays a tender depiction of the Madonna holding the infant Jesus in her arms, a motif deeply rooted in the region's spiritual iconography. On the reverse, the Hungarian Royal Coat of Arms is struck into the silver, representing the authority of the sovereign and the state. This tiny piece of precious metal, containing approximately 0.01 troy ounces of silver, serves as a tangible connection to the late Middle Ages.
