This silver solidus, dating from the period of 1645 to 1654, offers a tangible glimpse into the complex geopolitical landscape of seventeenth-century Northern Europe. Minted in the city of Riga during the era of Swedish occupation, the coin represents a fascinating intersection of regional commerce and imperial authority. The obverse of this piece displays a crowned letter 'C' which encloses the coat of arms of the House of Vasa, surrounded by the Latin inscription "CHRISTIANA D G R S".
