Struck in the mid eighteenth century, this Peruvian silver 8 Reales represents a classic era of Spanish colonial coinage. Minted in Lima, the coin contains 0.798 troy ounces of silver with a purity of 0.917. Known widely as a Pillar Dollar, this specific piece has survived the centuries in exceptional condition, earning a certified grading of Excavation Recovery, Uncirculated. The obverse of the coin displays a crowned shield flanked by the denomination and the assayer initials JD. On the reverse, the design showcases two crowned globes representing the Old and New Worlds. These globes rest between the crowned Pillars of Hercules, which are wrapped in banners bearing the Latin phrase meaning more beyond, alongside the 1755 year of issue.
