1787-2014 "EB" Brasher Doubloon Commemorative (NGC, .9999 Fine)

In 2014, a remarkable numismatic project brought one of the most famous early American designs back to life. The Gallery Mint produced a limited run of just 500 gold restrikes paying tribute to Ephraim Brasher's iconic 1787 Doubloon. Crafted from 0.85 troy ounces of highly pure 0.999 fine gold, these pieces offer a direct physical connection to the manufacturing methods of the late eighteenth century. To capture the authentic feel of the original, die maker Ron Landis hand-crafted the tooling used for this issue. Rather than using modern high-speed machinery, the minting team struck each piece using a traditional screw press, mimicking the exact physical process that would have been used in Brasher's era. To complete the tribute, the famous 'EB' oval hallmark was hand-stamped onto the surface after the initial striking was finished. The design elements are rich with early American imagery. One side features a rising sun climbing over a mountain peak with a calm sea in the foreground. The other side displays a heraldic eagle clutching an olive branch and arrows, surrounded by a ring of thirteen stars. This combination of historic hand-crafted techniques and precious metal makes the 2014 restrike a fascinating study in early American coining history.
