1797 $10 Turban Head Gold Eagle AU-55+ PCGS (Large Eagle)

0.4838 troy oz 1797 PCGS

In the final years of the eighteenth century, the young United States Mint in Philadelphia struck a limited run of ten dollar gold pieces. This 1797 issue, graded in About Uncirculated 55 Plus condition, represents an era of hand-crafted coinage. With a total production of just 10,940 pieces, these early gold coins are scarce survivors of America's foundational monetary system. The obverse displays the classic Turban Head motif, paired with the date 1797. On the reverse, the design features the impressive Large Eagle. The gold content of this ten dollar denomination is calculated at 0.4838 troy ounces of precious metal. Because these coins were struck before the introduction of branch mints, they bear no mint mark, identifying them as products of the historic Philadelphia facility.
