Struck at the historic Paris Mint, this gold coin represents a pivotal moment in French history. The piece dates from the era of 1799 to 1804, corresponding to the French Revolutionary Calendar years of AN 12 to AN 14. This was the specific timeframe when Napoleon Bonaparte served as the First Consul of the French Republic, prior to his declaration as Emperor. The obverse of the coin displays a left-facing portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte in his role as First Consul. On the reverse, the face value of 20 Francs and the calendar date are framed elegantly within a wreath. The Paris Mint's involvement is denoted by the 'A' mint mark. Struck in 0.900 fine gold, each coin contains 0.1867 troy ounces of precious metal. These specimens survive today in average circulated condition, preserving the tangible touch of daily commerce from the turn of the nineteenth century.
