1807 Draped Bust Quarter Good

In the early years of the United States Mint, the nation's coinage underwent rapid design transformations. Among the most celebrated of these early designs is the Draped Bust motif, which graced the twenty five cent piece in 1807. Struck in Philadelphia, this silver quarter contains 0.1934 troy ounces of actual silver, minted with a purity of 0.8924. As an authentic piece of early American currency, its production was fully backed by the United States government. The obverse of this quarter showcases a depiction of Lady Liberty, her hair draped loosely and secured gently with a ribbon. This elegant portrait, created by engraver Robert Scot, captures the aesthetic ideals of the young republic. On the reverse, the coin displays an early rendition of the Great Seal of the United States. This powerful heraldic image features an eagle with spread wings, bearing a shield on its chest while clutching arrows and an olive branch in its talons, symbolizing both strength and peace. Surviving examples of this era are highly prized for their historical character. This particular coin displays a level of wear consistent with a grade of Good, where the main silhouettes of Liberty and the heraldic eagle remain visible after more than two centuries of existence. The legible inscriptions include the date 1807 on the obverse, alongside the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination indicated as 25 C on the reverse.
