The year 1813 marked a significant era in early American coining, represented beautifully by this Capped Bust half dollar. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this fifty-cent piece is composed of 89.24 percent silver, containing approximately 0.3868 troy ounces of the precious metal. With a total mintage of 1,241,903 pieces, surviving examples in Very Fine condition offer a tangible connection to the early nineteenth century. Designed by John Reich, the obverse of the coin presents a classic left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty wearing a capped bonnet, with the word LIBERTY clearly inscribed above her profile. The year 1813 is positioned below the bust. On the reverse, Reich's design features a bold eagle with a shield draped across its chest, clutching an olive branch and arrows in its talons. The motto E PLURIBUS UNUM is displayed on a scroll above the eagle, surrounded by the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
