1818 Capped Bust Quarter VF
The year 1818 marked a significant era in early American coinage, captured beautifully in this silver quarter. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this piece belongs to the beloved Capped Bust series, representing the artistry of the young republic. Crafted from 0.8924 fine silver, the coin contains 0.1934 troy ounces of precious metal, surviving today in a remarkably preserved Very Fine condition. The obverse presents a profile of Miss Liberty facing left, her hair covered by a draped cap. She is encircled by stars, with the word LIBERTY and the date 1818 clearly visible. This design, created by John Reich, showcases the early aesthetic of United States currency. On the reverse, a powerful American eagle is depicted with wings spread. Above the eagle, the inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arches along the rim, while the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM is featured on a banner. Below the eagle, the denomination is indicated by the inscription 25 C., marking its place in the daily commerce of the early nineteenth century.
