In 1824, the United States Mint in Philadelphia produced a silver half dollar that stands as a classic example of early American coinage. Struck in 0.8924 fine silver, this piece contains 0.3866 troy ounces of precious metal. It represents the Capped Bust design era, a period celebrated for its hand-crafted aesthetic and distinct national iconography. The front of the coin displays a left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty. Her hair flows gently beneath a Phrygian cap, which is inscribed with the word LIBERTY. Thirteen stars encircle the portrait, representing the original colonies, with the date 1824 positioned at the bottom of the design. On the reverse, an American eagle is depicted with a shield draped across its chest. The bird clutches an olive branch and a bundle of arrows in its talons, symbolizing a desire for peace alongside a readiness for defense. Above the eagle, a scroll displays the national motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, while the denomination is indicated at the bottom as 50 C.
