1829 Capped Bust Half Dime AU

In 1829, the Philadelphia Mint produced a five cent silver piece that showcases the artistry of early American coinage. This small silver coin, struck with a purity of 0.8924, contains approximately 0.0387 troy ounces of precious metal. As is typical for Philadelphia issues of this era, no mint mark is present on the coin. The obverse features a portrait of Liberty facing left, her hair covered by a traditional Phrygian cap. A headband across her hair is clearly inscribed with the word LIBERTY, surrounded by stars and the 1829 date below. This classic depiction represents the early aesthetic values of the United States Mint. On the reverse, a detailed eagle grips an olive branch and arrows in its talons, with a protective shield placed over its chest. This half dime is preserved in Almost Uncirculated condition, offering a remarkably clear look at the intricate engraving work of William Kneass, who served as the chief engraver during this period.
