1829 Half Cent Good
In 1829, the Philadelphia Mint produced a run of 487,000 copper half cents. This early American denomination, representing a tiny fraction of a dollar, showcases the artistry of designer John Reich. The obverse features the Capped Liberty portrait, a classic representation of liberty facing left with her hair bound by a band, dated 1829 at the bottom of the coin. The reverse of the coin is framed by the inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" running around the outer edge. At the center, a delicate wreath wraps around the stated denomination of "HALF CENT". This specimen survives in Good condition, offering a tangible look at the everyday copper currency used in the United States during the early nineteenth century.
