1831-1849 Sardinia Gold 20 Lire Carlo Alberto Avg Circ
During the middle of the nineteenth century, the Kingdom of Sardinia issued these gold 20 Lire coins under the authority of King Carlo Alberto, who ruled from 1831 to 1849. Minted with a gold purity of 90 percent, each piece contains 0.1867 troy ounces of precious metal. These coins were produced in alignment with the specific weight and purity standards that would later characterize the Latin Coin Union, representing a period of monetary coordination in Europe. The obverse of the coin displays a detailed portrait of King Carlo Alberto, surrounded by his royal titles. On the reverse, the official coat of arms of the Kingdom of Sardinia is elegantly framed inside a decorative wreath. The design features traditional inscriptions including CAR. ALBERTVS D.G. REX SARD. CYP. ET HIER., alongside the face value of 20 Lire and the year of mintage, such as 1838. Surviving in average circulated condition, these gold coins offer a tangible look into the pre-unification coinage of the Italian peninsula.
