1832 Bust Half Dollar Fine (Large Letters)

In 1832, the Philadelphia Mint produced this Capped Bust half dollar, a fifty-cent piece struck in an unusual purity of 0.8924 fine silver. Representing an era of early American coinage, this specific issue features the Large Letters variety and carries a total precious metal content of 0.3868 troy ounces of silver. It survives today in a circulated, Fine condition, showing the honest wear of a coin that actively passed through the hands of early nineteenth-century Americans. The obverse of the coin displays a classic left-facing profile of Lady Liberty wearing a capped drape, surrounded by stars with the date 1832 positioned at the bottom. On the reverse, John Reich's design depicts a powerful eagle with a shield draped across its chest. The eagle clutches an olive branch and a bundle of arrows in its talons, symbolizing both peace and readiness, beneath a scroll bearing the national motto.
