1832 Large Cent Medium Letters VG

In the early decades of the United States, copper coinage was the backbone of daily commerce. This 1832 copper one cent piece belongs to the Matron Head series, which spanned the years 1816 to 1835. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin represents a fascinating era of early American manufacturing and design. The obverse of the coin displays a classic effigy of Liberty facing right, her hair bound in a cord, encircled by thirteen stars representing the original colonies. The date 1832 is clearly struck below the portrait. On the reverse, the denomination ONE CENT is framed by a continuous laurel wreath, which is in turn surrounded by the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. This particular specimen is characterized by the medium letters variety in its inscriptions, offering a wonderful look at early United States Mint die variations.
