This 1843 gold quarter eagle represents a fascinating survivor from the pre-1933 era of United States coinage. Struck at the main minting facility in Philadelphia, this coin does not bear a mint mark. It carries a face value of two and a half dollars, minted from a composition of 90 percent gold that contains just over one-tenth of an ounce of pure precious metal (0.1209 troy ounces).
