1848-1849 France Gold 20 Francs Lucky Angel Avg Circ

0.1867 troy oz .900 Average Circulated

This historic French gold coin, minted during the pivotal years of 1848 and 1849, showcases one of the most celebrated designs in numismatic history. Struck in 0.900 fine gold with a gold content of 0.1867 troy ounces, the twenty-franc piece is cataloged as KM#757. These specimens survive today in average circulated condition or better, carrying the gentle wear of their journey through nineteenth-century commerce. The obverse of the coin features the Standing Genius, an angelic figure captured in the act of writing the Constitution. This central figure is flanked by a fasces on the left and a rooster on the right, creating a powerful symbolic tableau envisioned by the artist Augustin Dupré. On the reverse, the coin displays its denomination of 20 Francs positioned directly above the date. This central text is nestled within a detailed wreath, which is itself encircled by the famous national motto of France, "Liberté Égalité Fraternité".
