Struck in the mid nineteenth century, this impressive twenty-dollar gold piece represents a major milestone in United States coinage. Minted in 1851 at the Philadelphia facility, the coin contains nearly a full troy ounce of gold, specifically 0.9675 ounces, with a purity of 90 percent. This issue belongs to the celebrated Liberty Double Eagle series, which was introduced to accommodate the massive influx of precious metal during the era. The coin features classic American imagery, with the obverse displaying the date 1851 beneath the profile of Liberty. On the reverse, the design showcases the traditional heraldic eagle accompanied by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination TWENTY D. Because it was struck at the main Philadelphia Mint, it bears no mint mark. This specific specimen has survived in remarkable condition, certified in Almost Uncirculated 53 status.
