In 1852, the United States Mint produced this impressive gold piece, which carries a face value of twenty dollars. Struck from 0.900 fine gold, the coin contains 0.9675 troy ounces of precious metal. This issue represents an early entry in a long-running series that spanned more than five decades, with production running from 1850 to 1907 across various mint facilities, including Philadelphia, San Francisco, New Orleans, Carson City, and Denver. The design, created by James B. Longacre, showcases a left-facing portrait of Liberty on the obverse. She wears a coronet decorated with pearls, which clearly displays the inscription LIBERTY. Surrounding her profile are thirteen stars representing the original colonies, with the date 1852 positioned at the bottom. On the reverse, a powerful eagle stands with its wings fully spread, protecting a shield on its chest. Above the eagle, a halo of rays surrounds thirteen stars arranged in an oval pattern. The outer rim is inscribed with the issuing nation, United States of America, alongside the denomination, Twenty Dollars.
