1852 $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle AU-55 PCGS

0.9675 troy oz .900 1852 Almost Unc - 55 (PCGS)

In 1852, the United States Mint produced this impressive twenty-dollar gold piece, a denomination born from the massive gold rushes of the era. Containing nearly a full troy ounce of gold (specifically 0.9675 troy ounces), this substantial coin represents the early years of the double eagle denomination, which was regularly struck from 1850 through 1907. The obverse features a left-facing portrait of Liberty, her hair secured in a bun while loose curls cascade down her neck. She wears a coronet decorated with pearls, which displays the word LIBERTY. Surrounding her portrait are thirteen stars representing the original colonies, with the year 1852 positioned at the bottom. On the reverse, designer James B. Longacre placed a central heraldic eagle with outstretched wings, shielding its chest with a striped escutcheon. In its talons, the eagle grasps an olive branch and arrows. Above the bird, a halo of delicate rays illuminates an oval arrangement of thirteen stars. The outer edge is inscribed with the issuing country, United States of America, and the denomination, Twenty Dollars. This specific specimen has survived in a well-preserved state, certified as Almost Uncirculated 55.
