In 1852, the Philadelphia Mint produced a substantial run of 2,053,026 gold double eagles, each carrying a face value of twenty dollars. These impressive pieces were struck from 0.900 fine gold, containing 0.9675 troy ounces of precious metal. As a prominent representative of the pre-1933 United States coinage, this issue showcases the classic Liberty design that defined American gold currency for generations. The obverse of the coin features the profile of Liberty, adorned with a coronet bearing her name, surrounded by thirteen stars representing the original colonies, with the year 1852 anchored at the bottom.
