1852 $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle MS-62 NGC

In 1852, the Philadelphia Mint produced more than two million gold double eagles, each carrying a face value of twenty dollars. Because these coins were struck at the main Philadelphia facility, they do not feature any mint mark, leaving the fields around the design clean and open. Crafted from 0.900 fine gold, this substantial coin contains just under one full troy ounce of precious metal, specifically 0.9675 troy ounces. This particular specimen has survived the decades in an exceptional state of preservation, earning a certified grade of Mint State 62 (MS-62). On the obverse, the classic profile of Liberty is encircled by thirteen stars with the date 1852 placed below her portrait. The reverse displays a heraldic eagle surrounded by the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination TWENTY D. It stands as a fascinating survivor from the pre-1933 era of American gold coinage.
