1852-O $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle AU-55 NGC

0.9675 troy oz .900 1852 NGC

In 1852, the United States Mint in New Orleans struck a limited run of twenty-dollar gold pieces, producing just 190,000 of these impressive coins. Known as the Liberty Gold Double Eagle, each piece contains nearly a full ounce of gold, specifically 0.9675 troy ounces of 0.900 fine precious metal. This particular specimen survived the decades in remarkable About Uncirculated condition, earning an AU-55 grade from a major certification service. The obverse features the classic profile of Liberty, her hair styled in a neat bun with loose curls cascading down her neck. She wears a coronet inscribed with the word LIBERTY, while the year 1852 is positioned directly below her portrait. On the reverse, the coin bears the distinctive 'O' mint mark, a tiny but significant detail indicating its origin at the southern mint in Louisiana.
