1852-O $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle MS-61 PCGS

0.9675 troy oz .900 1852 PCGS

In 1852, the New Orleans Mint struck a limited run of 190,000 gold pieces with a face value of twenty dollars. Today, finding one of these massive gold coins in uncirculated condition is an extraordinary occurrence. This particular specimen is certified in Mint State 61, representing a tiny fraction of the original mintage that escaped the heavy circulation of the pre-1933 era. The obverse of the coin features the classic profile of Liberty, her hair secured by a coronet inscribed with the word LIBERTY, surrounded by thirteen stars representing the original colonies, with the year 1852 positioned below. On the reverse, the heraldic eagle is encircled by the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination TWENTY D. Just beneath the eagle, the distinctive 'O' mint mark identifies this treasure as a product of the historic Louisiana coin press, which processed 0.9675 troy ounces of pure gold into this single, impressive coin.
