The obverse of the coin features the classic profile of Liberty, her hair secured by a coronet inscribed with the word LIBERTY, surrounded by thirteen stars representing the original colonies, with the year 1852 positioned below. On the reverse, the heraldic eagle is encircled by the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination TWENTY D.
