In 1852, the United States Mint produced a remarkably small and distinct silver coin with a face value of three cents. This particular issue, struck at the Philadelphia Mint, represents an intriguing era in American coinage when unusual denominations were introduced to facilitate daily commerce. Crafted from an alloy of 75 percent silver and 25 percent copper, this thin coin contains approximately 0.0193 troy ounces of precious metal. The obverse of the coin features a striking design centered around a detailed shield set against a large, six-pointed star. Surrounding this central motif is the year of issue, 1852.
