In 1853, the United States Mint in Philadelphia produced a copper half cent that showcases the artistic transition of mid nineteenth century American coinage. This particular specimen has survived in remarkable Almost Uncirculated condition, allowing observers to appreciate the subtle details of its design that typically wore away quickly in daily commerce. The obverse side presents a dignified personification of Liberty. She wears a classic coronet, which is clearly inscribed with the word LIBERTY, set against a field surrounded by stars with the year 1853 positioned below the portrait.
