0.1209 troy oz .900 1854 Almost Unc

Struck in 1854, this United States gold coin represents a classic era of American coinage. Minted in Philadelphia, this piece does not carry a mint mark, which was the standard practice for the main mint at the time. The coin is composed of 90 percent gold, containing approximately 0.12094 troy ounces of precious metal. During this specific year, the Philadelphia mint produced a total of 596,258 of these quarter eagles. The obverse features a left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty, designed by Christian Gobrecht. Her hair is bound by a band clearly inscribed with the word LIBERTY, and she is encircled by thirteen stars representing the original colonies, with the date 1854 positioned at the bottom. On the reverse, a heraldic eagle clutches an olive branch and arrows, its breast protected by a shield. The eagle is surrounded by the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the abbreviated denomination 2 1/2 D.
