1854 Half Cent XF

0.0000 troy oz 1854 Extra Fine

In the decade preceding the American Civil War, the Philadelphia Mint produced this pure copper half cent, representing one of the smallest denominations in United States history. Minted in 1854, this coin comes from a long-running series that spanned from 1793 to 1857. Surviving today in Extra Fine condition, it offers a remarkably clear look at mid-nineteenth-century American coinage artistry. The obverse features a classic portrait of Lady Liberty facing left, her hair bound by a coronet. Thirteen stars encircle her image, representing the original colonies, with the year 1854 struck clearly below the bust. On the reverse, a delicate wreath frames the words HALF CENT, which is surrounded by the bold inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
