1854 Liberty Seated Quarter AU w/Arrows
The year 1854 brought a subtle but fascinating design variation to the United States quarter, captured beautifully in this silver coin. Struck in Philadelphia with a composition of 90 percent silver, this piece contains approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of precious metal. It represents a captivating era of American coinage, preserved in an impressive Almost Uncirculated condition. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, the obverse presents Lady Liberty seated upon a rock. In one hand, she supports a staff topped with a liberty cap, while her other hand rests on a shield. For the year 1854, arrowheads were added on either side of the date at the bottom of the coin, creating a distinct visual marker that draws the eye immediately to the year of minting. The reverse displays a powerful eagle with a shield emblazoned across its chest. The bird is perched on an olive branch while clutching three arrows in its talons. Surrounding this central design are the inscriptions indicating the nation of origin, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and the abbreviated face value, QUAR. DOL.
