1854-O Liberty Seated Half Dollar XF
This 1854 silver half dollar, minted in New Orleans, represents a fascinating era of American coinage. Struck with a purity of 90 percent silver, the coin contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal. It stands as a remarkable survivor from a total mintage of 5,240,000 pieces, preserved in Extra Fine condition. The obverse design showcases Liberty seated upon a rock, holding a pole topped with a liberty cap in one hand while her other hand rests on a shield. Below this central figure, the date 1854 is clearly visible. This classic depiction was created by Christian Gobrecht, capturing the artistic spirit of the mid-nineteenth century. On the reverse, an eagle is depicted perched on a branch while clutching three arrows. A shield is positioned across the bird's chest, mirroring the shield on the obverse. The inscriptions on the coin include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination HALF DOL., along with the distinctive O mint mark signifying its origin at the New Orleans Mint.
