In 1860, the Philadelphia Mint produced a mere 154 proof specimens of the Indian Head gold dollar. This incredibly small production run makes any surviving example a true marvel of nineteenth-century American coinage. Strikingly beautiful, this particular coin has been certified as PR-65 Cameo, indicating a superb level of preservation and a sharp contrast between the frosted design elements and the reflective fields. This tiny gold treasure, struck in 0.900 fine gold, carries a face value of one dollar. The obverse features the stylized Indian Head design, while the reverse displays the denomination and the date of 1860. Because it was minted in Philadelphia, the coin carries no mint mark, standing as a pristine representative of the pre-1933 era of United States coinage.
