Struck at the Philadelphia Mint on the eve of the American Civil War, this impressive twenty dollar gold piece contains 0.9675 troy ounces of gold. The coin represents a classic era of American coinage, with a design that was produced by the United States Mint from 1850 to 1907. The obverse displays a portrait of Lady Liberty, her head turned to the left, encircled by thirteen stars representing the original colonies. On the reverse, an eagle with outstretched wings holds a shield, surrounded by rays and another cluster of thirteen stars. The inscriptions on this side include the issuing nation, United States of America, and the denomination, written as Twenty D. This specific specimen has been certified in About Uncirculated 55 condition, preserving the intricate details created by designer James B. Longacre.
