1860 Indian Head Cent Pointed Bust VG
The year 1860 marked an important transition for the United States one-cent piece. As only the second year of the Indian Head series, this coin introduced a significant design update that would remain a signature of the series for decades. While the obverse continued to display the profile of Liberty adorned in a traditional Native American feather headdress, the reverse underwent a major transformation from the previous year's design. On the reverse side of this copper-nickel coin, the central denomination of "ONE CENT" is encircled by a detailed wreath. For the first time in 1860, a prominent shield was added to the very top of this wreath. At the bottom, a bundle of arrows is secured with a ribbon bow, creating a powerful visual balance. The obverse is inscribed with "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" alongside the clear date of 1860. This particular specimen is preserved in Very Good condition, showing honest wear from its time in circulation during a pivotal era in American history. It stands as a fascinating artifact of early United States minor coinage, capturing the exact moment the Indian Head cent adopted its most recognizable reverse layout.
