During a pivotal year in American history, the Philadelphia Mint produced this intriguing 1863 Indian Head Cent. Unlike later versions of the series, this specific issue from the Civil War era was struck in a unique alloy consisting of 88 percent copper and 12 percent nickel. This composition gives the coin a distinct look and feel that sets it apart from pure copper issues. The obverse features a profile of Liberty adorned with a feathered Native American headdress, surrounded by the bold inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the date "1863" positioned at the bottom. On the reverse, the simple yet elegant denomination "ONE CENT" is nestled inside a decorative wreath.
