1864-1909 Indian Head Cents Cull/AG
Introduced in the mid-nineteenth century, the Indian Head Cent represents a classic era of American coinage. Minted in Philadelphia from 1864 to 1909, these small copper coins circulated widely through daily commerce. Each piece was struck from an alloy consisting of 95 percent copper, with the remaining 5 percent composed of tin and zinc. The obverse features a distinct depiction of Liberty adorned in a Native American feathered headdress, surrounded by the legend of the issuing nation. On the reverse, the denomination of ONE CENT is simply and elegantly framed within a decorative wreath. Designed by James B. Longacre, this imagery became one of the most recognizable and enduring motifs in the history of United States currency.
