In 1864, the United States Mint released a distinct version of the Indian Head Cent, striking it in a bronze alloy composed of 95 percent copper and 5 percent tin and zinc. This particular coin, graded in Almost Good condition, shows the honest wear of a piece that circulated widely through the hands of everyday Americans during a pivotal era in the nation's history. The obverse of the coin features a depiction of Liberty wearing an Native American headdress, a design created by James B. Longacre. The year 1864 is displayed beneath this central figure. On the reverse, the denomination "ONE CENT" is framed by a detailed wreath, representing a classic aesthetic of nineteenth-century American coinage. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin carries no mint mark, which was standard for the facility at the time.
