1864-S $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle AU-50 PCGS

0.9675 troy oz .900 1864 PCGS

In 1864, the San Francisco Mint struck this impressive twenty dollar gold piece, which contains 0.9675 troy ounces of pure gold. This specific coin has survived the generations and is certified in About Uncirculated 50 condition, preserving a remarkable level of detail from a turbulent period in American history. The obverse of the coin showcases a left-facing portrait of Liberty. She wears a delicate, pearl-bordered diadem emblazoned with the word LIBERTY. Below her portrait, the date 1864 is clearly struck, marking its mid-Civil War origin. The reverse displays a heraldic eagle with its wings fully spread, protecting a shield on its chest. Above the eagle, thirteen stars form an oval pattern beneath a halo of light rays. The design is encircled by the inscriptions United States of America and the denomination, Twenty Dollars. This classic Liberty Head design, created by James B. Longacre, was minted from 1850 to 1907.
