The year 1864 marked the introduction of a novel denomination in American coinage: the Two Cent Piece. Struck in copper at the Philadelphia Mint, this particular issue represents a fascinating moment in monetary design. Curving above this heraldic display is the legendary phrase, "IN GOD WE TRUST," making its very first appearance on a circulating United States coin.
