0.0000 troy oz 1865 Almost Unc

In 1865, the United States introduced a distinctive three-cent coin struck from a copper-nickel alloy. This specimen, preserved in About Uncirculated condition, represents the inaugural year of a fascinating denomination that served a vital role in daily commerce during the Reconstruction era. The obverse of the coin features a classic profile of Lady Liberty. Designed by James Longacre, she is depicted wearing a coronet inscribed with the word LIBERTY, facing left. Surrounding her portrait is the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, with the date 1865 positioned directly below the bust. On the reverse, the coin displays its denomination using bold Roman numerals. The numeral III is centrally placed, framed by a stylized laurel wreath. This simple yet elegant combination of a classical wreath and Roman numerals created a clean, easily recognizable design for the public.
