1865 Two Cent Piece AU
The 1865 United States Two Cent Piece represents a fascinating moment in American numismatic history. Struck in copper, this coin features a detailed obverse design centered around a decorative shield. Behind the shield, a pair of crossed arrows and a lush wreath frame the composition. Arching above this central motif is the early national inscription, "IN GOD WE TRUST", while the year 1865 is anchored clearly at the bottom. On the reverse, the coin displays a simple yet elegant layout. A large wreath encircles the central denomination, which is written boldly as "2 CENTS". Encircling this wreath is the legend "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA". Created by designer James Longacre, this short-lived denomination offers a compelling look at mid-nineteenth-century American coinage design, preserved here in About Uncirculated condition.
