The 1865 United States two-cent coin offers a fascinating glimpse into American numismatic design during a pivotal era. Struck in copper at the Philadelphia Mint, this particular issue is recognized by the distinct 'Fancy 5' styling in its date. With a total mintage of 13,640,000 pieces, this coin is a classic representative of the short-lived two-cent denomination, which was only produced for a brief period in the nineteenth century. This specimen survives in Extra Fine condition, preserving the bold details of its intricate engraving. The obverse features a detailed shield design draped with laurels, topped by a scroll bearing the famous motto, 'IN GOD WE TRUST'. Below the shield, the year 1865 is clearly visible, showcasing the elegant curves of the 'Fancy 5' variety. The reverse of the coin is framed by a lush wheat wreath, which encircles the large central denomination of '2 CENTS'. Surrounding this central motif is the legend 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA'.
